Check Test Training

If you are unsure of the procedure for a check test or what you will be assessed on and how you will be assessed click Here .

Most Driving Instructors find the check test and the weeks running up to it a stressful time and it need not be. As you are already reading this, you are no doubt aware that a check test is carried out within 12 months of initial qualification as an ADI then every 2 or 4 years thereafter dependant on grade achieved on the last check test.

Driving instructors, even those who work for big schools, tend to work very much on their own and over time develop their own style of instruction. This is no bad thing and should be encouraged. But the lack of supervision and feedback can occasionally lead to an otherwise good instructor drifting to far from what is considered best practice and may lead to difficulties come check test time. If you are concerned that this may have happened or you simply want some advise on how to prepare call Alan Rennie  at scottishdrivers.co.uk on 0800 069 98 64 or click Here to make an online enquiry and he will get back to you and if need be arrange some check test training.

If you have recently failed a check test you should most definitely give him a call. The majority of instructors who fail check tests are not bad instructors, they merely need some guidance back on to the right track and help to restore their confidence before going onto a second and successful check test.

The majority of newly qualified instructors tend to fall back on how they prepared for their part 3 test not realising that out in the real world things are different and are assessed differently. If this is your first check test you would be well advised to organise some check test training.

Alan Rennie at scotishdrivers.co.uk has had many years experience helping instructors prepare for  check tests throughout Scotland.

Training is charged at £30 / hour (Additional cost may be incurred for travel outwith the central belt).  The first session normally involve observing you deliver a lesson with a pupil followed by a debrief and, if required, some initial coaching. Often this is enough to reassure you that you are on the right track but further 1 to 1 training or observed lessons can be organised. Advice on lesson plans and suitable routes to match your pupil’s capability and the chosen topic are also services that can be provided. You will be given written reports on all training sessions.
