The Car
The majority of driving schools use small hatchbacks, replacing them every two to three years or so. By which time they have racked up a horrendous mileage and their controls have long ago started to feel a bit sloppy and more difficult to use.
Scottishdrivers.co.uk and the AA Driving School use the Ford Focus . Since it’s introduction the Focus has consistently been the UK's biggest selling car.
Why ? Quite simply because of it’s combination being comfortable, easy to drive and reliable. As a driver you have good all round visibility, all the controls have a light positive feel to them. The car is replaced at least twice a year and in the unlikely event of breakdown or accident it is replaced within twenty four hours.
How does this benefit you as a learner driver ? It ensures that you are always driving a car that retains it’s original light positive feel to the controls and your training is unlikely to be disrupted by a change of vehicle or lessons cancelled due to mechanical breakdown.
Compared to the smaller hatchbacks, normally used by driving schools, the Focus is an easier car to drive. Being slightly larger it feels more stable and easier to control. After all the millions of motorists that have made it the UK’s biggest seller cant all be wrong.
